Common Questions and Answers about UI Wireframes

Smashing Magazine offers perhaps the best, most succint description: "Wireframing is one of the most valuable parts of any web design project. It can save a designer tons of time by hashing out the details of a site's architecture, functionality, and content prior to actually starting a visual design."

But the benefits also extend past that upfront time savings. Wireframing is a critical stage of the development process because it forces all team members to carefully analyze & plan the user experience.

Our wireframe design service offers user interface mockups at a much lower cost (and in a shorter timeframe) than typical "UX design agencies". As such, our service does not include copywriting, color schemes, typography, button label text or many of the core user experience elements in any UI design. We rely on our clients- and their graphic designers- to make the final decisions when it comes to text-based and graphics-based user interface elements.

At the same time, we always strive to create user interfaces which are intuitive and easy to navigate, and our designers stay tuned to the latest trends in UI & UX design. If we see a potential improvement during the wireframing process, our designers may make suggestions related to the usability of your website or app.

All projects have a 10-day turnaround guarantee. That means you will receive the first draft of your wireframe mockups within 10 business days after we receive your order. Revisions on the original designs typically take 5-7 business days; most projects are completed within three weeks.

We're flexible. We can accept hand-drawn sketches or crude layouts you've made in Microsoft® Word or similar software. We can also start the wireframing process without a sketch using a clearly-defined written description. Of course, providing as much detail as possible will result in the highest quality end result and the fastest possible turnaround time. If you have any questions or concerns prior to starting a project, please contact us.

Generally speaking, we use Balsamiq Mockups to create wireframes, though we sometimes use other tools where appropriate. Depending on the scope of a wireframing project, we may use Omnigraffle, iPlotz, Wirefy, FlairBuilder or another similar program. Upon special request we can also use Photoshop, Illustrator, Keynote, PowerPoint, etc. instead. If you require your wireframes be created using a specific software application, please contact us before starting a new project.

Your professional wireframes will delivered in PDF and PNG formats, plus you will also receive .BMPR files for use with Balsamiq Mockups software. These BMPR files are compatible with both Mac and Windows versions of Balsamiq Mockups. Please let us know if you need your wireframes delivered in a different file format.
